Rosamund (a finely nuanced performance from Dennis) falls pregnant by the first man she sleeps with, the charming news announcer George, played with an elegant sense of sexual ambiguity by Ian McKellen. Trapped by her very conventional upbringing, Sandy battles to keep the baby. This 1969 film provides a different perspective on how destructive middle-class conventions of the day could be.
