USA 1990
Dir Charles Burnett
With Danny Glover, Paul Butler, Mary Alice, Vonetta McGee
Certificate 12A

In Burnett’s tantalising blend of domestic drama and allegorical mysticism, the tensions within an African American family now living in LA come to a climax when they receive a visit from an old acquaintance (Glover). A boldly inventive meditation on the fraught relationship between tradition and modernity, the film has an unsettling, mysterious power.

The screening on Wed 15 Jan will be introduced by BFI programmer David Somerset.
