Things to Come
+ intro by Valeria Carullo, Curator, RIBA Photographs Collection
Alexander Korda’s collaboration with writer HG Wells produced this ambitious 1936 sci-fi.
Dir William Cameron Menzies
With Raymond Massey, Ralph Richardson, Margaretta Scott
Alexander Korda’s collaboration with writer HG Wells may not have been Britain’s first science fiction film but it was certainly the most ambitious to date. It charts the story of a century; of humanity’s near destruction in a war, enslavement by a fascist dictator, and our eventual flight to the stars. In terms of sheer spectacle, few British films have tried to match it since.
