Alexander Korda’s collaboration with writer HG Wells may not have been Britain’s first science fiction film but it was certainly the most ambitious to date. It charts the story of a century; of humanity’s near destruction in a war, enslavement by a fascist dictator, and our eventual flight to the stars. In terms of sheer spectacle, few British films have tried to match it since.

The screening on Thursday 10 January will be introduced by Valeria Carullo, Curator, RIBA Photographs Collection.

Also available on BFI Player.
