Simone de Beauvoir noted of this film that it ’moves us by the beauty of its landscapes, its poetry and above all its subtle tenderness’.
We are delighted to announce that film critic Phuong Le and academic Margherita Sprio will join us for the post-screening discussion hosted by film curator and lecturer Helen de Witt.

1968. Men are in charge and the world is burning. A travelling theatre company takes a production of Lysistrata on tour and it’s not long before the cast start seeing their own lives and relationships through fresh eyes. Zetterling’s riff on Aristophanes’ play revealed that little had changed in society since it was written. Simone de Beauvoir loved it.
