10 Steps to Make a Movie: a Film event for KS2
Fri 13 Jul 2018 10:30 – 14:30
NFT2, BFI Southbank
This event is intended for teachers and students only.
How do you go about making a movie? What stages do films go through from the first idea to the final screening? This event is designed to take pupils on a step by step journey from a film’s conception, through storyboarding, filming and editing to its release and distribution. Through interactive activities we will explore each stage of film making with links to the curriculum such as discussing genre, comprehension of what we see and hear on screen and how trailers persuade audiences to see a film.
Drama activities will also allow pupils the opportunity to act as the cast and crew of a film and immerse themselves in the world of shooting blockbusters. Pupils will also make foley sound effects to create the atmosphere for a film using celery, lettuce, water and coconuts! We will look at clips from films such as The Wizard of Oz and Paddington.
The stages that we will go through are: Initial idea; film genre; storyboarding; finance for a film; cast and crew; film production and filming; editing; sound effects and foley; special effects; trailers and distribution. This event includes a range of interactive activities for pupils and a teachers’ resource booklet with additional ideas to take back into the classroom linking film to areas across the curriculum.
Pupils will leave with all the knowledge required to go and start creating their own blockbusters!
Suitable for KS2 cross-curricular and Gifted & Talented pupils
£6 per pupil; £1 per adult accompanying every 5 pupils; for any additional adult the pupil rate applies. £40 for teachers attending without pupils.
