A message from Paolo Taviani
More than talking I would prefer to listen, and ask what you thought after watching our films, of the long journey through cinema and history.
A journalist once asked me: "Why did you decide to make films?"
To be loved and love people I don't know and that maybe I will never know, like all of you today , there are so many of you and it gives me joy.
Many yes, because this festival is screening our films - all of them - in many theatres.
Even the image that appears on the cover of the book dedicated to us, the great German directors Herzog and Schlondorff handcuffed to each other in front of the cinema that refused to show Padre padrone, fills me with energy.
Today all our films are screened in London, it's the first time this has ever happened.
Film London CEO Adrian Wootton and Carla Cattani, with love – yes with love – found them all and had the prints made. Some had disappeared, submersed in a warehouse of old prints.
It is a pity I cannot come to London but I will come in the next few months and carry a greeting from Vittorio who would have been so moved by this love from Shakespeare’s descendants.
