Blake Edwards’ understated spy movie charts a romance stymied by the Cold War and finds Barry blending marimbas with sad, insistent strings. Judith Farrow meets Feodor Sverdlov on holiday in Barbados; she is an assistant to a minister in the Home Office, he the Soviet air attaché assigned to a Soviet General. Anthony Quayle and Sylvia Syms provide excellent support to the stars. The score remained unreleased until 2021.
