The dynamic and brilliantly versatile Sammy Davis Jr. began his career in vaudeville, but soon moved on to the small screen and a recording career. His filmography is less distinguished, but he was used to great effect as a cult leader in one of the standout sequences – and best songs – of Sweet Charity. His exuberant performance leaps off the screen and would remain one of the finest big-screen showcases of his considerable talents.
