Sacha Polak reunites with Vicky Knight, who earned BAFTA and BIFA recognition for their previous collaboration Dirty God, for an astonishing expressive exploration of anger, compassion and family. Twentysomething nurse Franky lives a busy life with her large and chaotic family in East London. Beneath her seemingly calm surface she carries the emotional scars of a traumatic event from her childhood, desperate for revenge and to assign blame for what happened. Then she makes a surprising connection with one of her patients, offering her a chance to escape – in more ways than one. Moving seamlessly between moments of rage and tenderness, Polak’s slice of British social realism draws its inspiration from Knight’s own childhood. It’s a raw, emotional character study, whose range of themes are interwoven through the lives of its credible and well-drawn protagonists. At the heart of it all is yet another remarkable and unmissable performance by Knight.
