In his films, Sergio Leone aimed to re-enchant cinema with stories of a mythical America, while expressing his own disenchantment and at the same time conveying the exhilaration he personally felt while watching classic films. He also wrote thoughtful articles about the roots of his own practice: among others, about the influence of Chaplin; Fellini's carnivalesque; John Ford's optimism; and “once upon a time there was a certain kind of cinema”. In this talk, Sir Christopher Frayling will examine what Leone wrote and said about his work.

Christopher Frayling’s new book is Sergio Leone by Himself (published by Reel Art Press).
