Science on the Seven Seas: a Science event for lower KS2
Tue 6 March 2018 10:30 – 14:45
NFT2, BFI Southbank
This event is intended for teachers and students only.
Calling all scientists! This interactive event will allow pupils to apply their scientific knowledge to practical situations through fun activities, using short films to investigate scientific concepts from the national curriculum around topics such as animals and their habitats, plants, weather and seasons. They will consider ideas such as what Jack’s beanstalk needs to grow and which animals are nocturnal. We will also engage in practical demonstrations to explore concepts of light and shadows.
This event provides pupils with an opportunity to engage in discussion around scientific concepts, working in pairs and groups. They will be able to see where their knowledge can be applied to real world situations.
An introduced afternoon screening of the Aardman animated film, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! (2012) will complete the day.
Suitable for lower KS2 Science (Years 3 & 4 and Gifted & Talented Year 2 pupils)
£6 per pupil; £1 per adult accompanying every 5 pupils; for any additional adult the pupil rate applies. £40 for teachers attending without pupils.
Please note that schools should provide their own packed lunches.
‘I was really impressed with the different areas of science that were introduced in preparation for the afternoon screening’
