Filmmaker, novelist, musician and poet Cyril Collard worked as Pialat’s assistant (and acted in À Nos amours), and his mentor’s influence shows in the raw honesty of his only feature. Collard plays a promiscuous bisexual man wrestling with the burden of living with HIV. A year after the film’s release, Collard died of AIDS-related complications, leaving this landmark, nakedly autobiographical film as a searing testament to his many talents.
