Liv Ullmann’s final collaboration with Ingmar Bergman was his last film, Saraband, made for television. Peppered with familiar visual and thematic motifs, Saraband is a continuation of sorts of Scenes from a Marriage, revisiting characters Marianne and Johan some 30 years later. Although at times playful, with Ullmann’s Marianne often addressing the camera directly, the film has a distinct sense of bitterness with familial abuse at its heart.
