Granger is superb in Hitchcock’s experimental ‘continuous action’ version of Patrick Hamilton’s stage play, based on the real-life Leopold and Loeb case. He plays Philip Morgan, one of two young intellectual sophisticates (the other is played by Gun Crazy’s Dall) who murder a classmate simply to assert their superiority. Three years later, Hitchcock cast Granger in another lead role, in Strangers On A Train.
