Riverfront refurbishment at BFI Southbank
Improving your experience.
We’re delighted to have received planning permission to embark on a much needed project of repairs and refurbishment of the riverfront entrance, bar and restaurant area under the Grade II* listed Waterloo Bridge.
Architects Carmody Groarke’s design, selected from an invited RIBA competition, will extend the public space across two floors offering a terrace with spectacular views of the river Thames. The new space will also house a refurbished bar and restaurant, in partnership with Benugo.
The latest stage of the ongoing modernisation of BFI Southbank, we hope this refurbishment will increase visibility of the BFI’s activities on the South Bank, generate much-needed income to support our cultural activities and offer you an improved experience at your favourite cinema.
Works started on Saturday 10 February, are now in the final stages of completion and will open shortly.
During the works the riverside entrance, as well as the Riverfront bar and restaurant, will be closed, so access to BFI Southbank will be via the Lightbox entrance on Theatre Avenue. Sorry for the inconvenience but please allow a little extra time, especially to reach NFT1, when you visit us. To help minimise the impact, Benugo will be opening a new ‘Grab & Go’ coffee and snack bar with additional seating in the main foyer.
In addition, the previously closed entrances on Theatre Avenue and opposite the Southbank will be re-opened for the duration of the building works.
