The Taviani Brothers’ final film together is a bold Second World War drama, adapted from author and former partisan fighter Beppe Fenoglio’s acclaimed and posthumously published 1963 novel. A romantic adventure, it finds a partisan soldier making the surprising and dangerous decision to save his romantic rival from Fascists in order to establish the truth of the man’s relationship with his would-be lover.
