In Nairobi shy, aspiring nursing student Kena crosses paths with the rainbow-haired, free-spirited Ziki when their fathers run against each other in a local election. Despite the political rivalry between their families and societal pressures (their sexual orientation being illegal in Kenya), they find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other. A wonderfully vibrant journey of dizzying first love, Wanuri Kahiu’s courageous debut feature (which was initially banned by the Kenya Film Classification Board) should be seen on the big screen.
