Surrounded by an unruly gaggle of sisters, an overbearing mother and the weight of impending poverty, Elizabeth struggles to keep her family’s reputation and prospects intact. Wright’s adaptation offers a realism and lived-in quality to Austen’s trademark social satire, with a stellar cast and crackling chemistry throughout. The clench of a hand has never felt so heart wrenching.
