Preview: 009 Re:Cyborg (3D) + Q&A
Director Kenji Kamiyama and producer Tomohiko Ishii join us for a screening of their unique contemporary anime.
Directed by Kenji Kamiyama
With voices of Mamoru Miyano, Daisuke Ono, Chiwa Salto
Running time 103 min
In 1964, nine regular humans from different parts of the world are abducted and transformed into cyborgs with astounding powers for the purpose of being used as weapons. They rebel and start to fight against their creators in the name of justice. But as their struggle finally restores world peace, they eventually disappear from the pages of history and from people's memory. In 2013, skyscrapers across the world are hit by bombers with no apparent connection. The nine heroes gather once again to fight against this faceless menace. They appear untouched by time, but society around them has changed dramatically, as has the idea of justice and they are forced to confront whether they still have role to play in this new world. 009 Re:Cyborg has had many incarnations since its early days as a manga phenomenon in the 1960s, through to a number of TV series and films, but Kamiyama and Production I.G have created a unique contemporary anime using computer technology but with a hand drawn sensibility.
We look forward to welcoming director Kenji Kamiyama and producer Tomohiko Ishii to join us for a Q&A following the screening.
