Perhaps the pretensions and peccadilloes of the fashion world are too easy a satirical target, but Altman’s admittedly hit-and-miss ensemble piece – about the designers, models, agents, buyers, paparazzi and hangers-on at the Paris Fashion Week – makes effective use of authentic locations and fashion folk. The ‘story’, such as it is, revolves around the investigation of a mysterious death; the cast is astonishing.
