While fighting the Spanish-American war in late-19th-century Cuba, a close-knit group of Buffalo Soldiers hijacks a shipment of gold and return to the US, with their former Colonel in hot pursuit. For their leader, Jesse Lee, their newfound freedom gives him the chance to avenge the men who murdered his preacher father. Writer-director-star Van Peebles made Posse to counter the lack of Black characters in Westerns, producing a vital addition to the genre.
