In a wintry New York during the Depression, an artist (Cotten) searching for inspiration has a chance encounter with an enigmatic young girl (Jones) which leads to his beginning to paint again. Thereafter, however, she appears to age more quickly than time would allow... Joseph August’s atmospheric photography (shot, unusually, on location in New York) and a Debussy-based score add to the aura of romantic mystery.
