Philosophical Screens: La Strada and the Philosophy of Melancholy
Our guest film philosophers will explore one of Fellini’s best-loved, most moving titles.
Total runtime 60min
Fellini’s La Strada is bathed in an atmosphere of sadness, which the director described as being ‘like a shadow hanging over me’. In this session film philosophers William Brown, John Ó Maoilearca and Catherine Wheatley will explore the philosophical implications of the film’s melancholic tone, considering, among other things, its relationship to fatalism, Christian allegory and the timeless image of the weeping clown.
Free to ticket holders of La Strada on Sat 18 Jan 13:00, otherwise £6.50 (tickets must be booked in advance due to capacity).
