For more than 60 years, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani created cinema that was often wondrous and magical, while also exploring the complexities of Italian social, cultural and political life. It contemplated and explored art – from film and painting to sculpture and writing – to create a unique canon of original work, shot through with ribald humour and great humanity. Vittorio passed away in 2018. Paolo has continued, returning in 2022 to one of the siblings’ favourite writers, Luigi Pirandello, with Leonora addio. It is one of the many films Paolo Taviani will discuss with season curator Adrian Wootton as they look back over the filmmakers’ creatively rich and storied lives.
