On the Town
A joyous musical set in New York from the directors of Singin’ in the Rain.
Dirs Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen
With Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, Betty Garrett
With sequences gloriously shot on location in New York, On the Town (Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen, 1949), tells the story of three sailors who find romance while on 24-hour shore leave is a joy from start to finish. On the Town features music by maestro Leonard Bernstein and a deliciously droll screenplay (and lyrics) by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Kelly and Sinatra radiate charm but Betty Garrett, as the wise-cracking taxi driver, practically steals the film.
The screening on Sat 26 Oct will be introduced by Patricia Ward Kelly.
