George Orwell’s dystopian tale stars John Hurt as a man caught between love and oppression.

We are screening from an original 35mm release print with the Eurythmics score; this also includes one reel of play-in music. We will start this reel 5 minutes before the start of each screening as the audience enter (keeping the lights up).

Orwell’s dystopian story was an obvious choice for a revival in the year it was intended to represent. Hurt is Winston Smith, a clerk in the Ministry of Truth, from where the regime headed by Big Brother continues to create its own history. An illicit relationship with a mysterious woman, however, is enough to throw his life into disarray, as the Thought Police move in...
