A naturalist fantasy in kaleidoscopic colours, this challenging film portrays a family in their summer house in the Stockholm archipelago. The two daughters fantasise that they are adults, representing different colours – red, yellow, blue, green, violet, black and indigo. This is director Zetterling’s only children’s film and was inspired by Goethe’s theory of colour.
Contains racial stereotypes including redface and yellowface.
