Her faith shaken by her father’s death, a minister’s daughter (Stanwyck) teams up with a conman to stage evangelical shows in which she performs ‘miracles.’ But then the unexpected happens... Stanwyck manages to make her character – loosely based on Aimee Semple McPherson – both credible and sympathetic, notwithstanding the fake claims and tacky razzmatazz of her circus; Capra’s sensitive direction steers clear of facile moralising.
