An RAF officer (Niven) is destined to crash after his Lancaster bomber is badly damaged mid-flight. In what should have been his last moments, he talks via his headset to an American radio operator and they form a bond just before he jumps – without a parachute – into the unknown. Somehow he cheats death, which causes a huge commotion in the ‘other world,’ and a heavenly tribunal is convened to determine whether he can live out his years, or if his days are numbered. This exceptional WWII film, which moves seamlessly between monochrome and Technicolor, has been meticulously restored in 4K.
