The hopes of change expressed by characters in Yang’s earlier films are soured by rampant consumerism and a society consumed by self-interest in the second part of the director’s New Taipei trilogy. Red Fish, Lun-lun, Little Buddha and Hong Kong are goofball swindlers with dreams of making it big. However, just as Red Fish is progressing with his attempt to dupe foreign visitors, a problem closer to home begins to cause problems for him.
