Cruise delivers one of his most acclaimed performances in Paul Thomas Anderson’s sprawling, multi-layered study of characters in crisis. Frank T.J. Mackey is an unsavoury professional pick-up artist, lecturing men on the art of ‘seducing and destroying’ women. It’s an outrageous role but also one in which Cruise reveals multiple layers.
