“There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns” - Octavia E. Butler
Filmmaking and watching offer us a way to imagine new horizons, or alternate worlds that are already out there. What planes and dimensions exist alongside our own, and what images can we summon from there to here? A speculative fiction that reimagines the London smog through the lens of the climate crisis. Explore a cyberpunk Manila and the true roots of electronic music as memories and histories intertwine with futures and reality blurs. Is that catfish talking to me?
Costa prize-winning author Caleb Azumah Nelson (Open Water, Small Worlds) premieres his debut short film Pray. LSFF alumni Natalie Cubides-Brady (Beyond the Winds: A Post Nuclear Reverie) presents her European Film Award 2024 nomination The Veiled City. Vienna Shorts FIDO winner Hito explores a dreamlike Filipino landscape.
