Dir Steve McQueen
With Amarah-Jae St Aubyn, Micheal Ward
Less of a true story than the other Small Axe films, this beautifully realised fable of young love and music at a house party in the 1980s is a collective reimagining of a time and place very precious to West Indian Londoners. Employing an unforgettable soundtrack and a unique visual style, the film serves as an ode to the romantic reggae genre ‘Lovers Rock’, and the youth who found freedom in its sound.
Joint ticket available with talk The Making of Small Axe with Steve McQueen, Tracey Scoffield, David Tanner and guests £15, concs £12 (Members pay £2 less); joint tickets must be booked via box office on 020 7928 3232 or in person.
Join us for a Lovers Rock Soundsystem and after party at Spiritland, Royal Festival Hall 10pm to 2am where Dennis Bovell and friends will be playing through the night. Tickets available separately or joint ticket available with tickets to the film screening. Please select “Screening with after party” on the ticket options.
Please note if you are attending the after party our partners at Spiritland have updated us on their protocols for guests.
They ask that everyone attending brings either:
- physical proof that they have had a double vaccination - your double vax card or NHS app proof
- show a negative lateral flow test result taken within the previous 48 hours. Results must be via email/text; do not bring the negative test with you as we can't see when this was taken. You can scan the bar code and receive a result via text or email via the NHS app.
If you don't have either of these we will not be able to let you in unfortunately.
We also have other measures in place:
- temperature checks on the door
- a limited capacity
- a powerful ventilation system
Please do not come if you feel unwell, you have symptoms of COVID or you have recently been in contact with someone who has either tested positive for COVID or been told to isolate.
