Japanese buildings on film have provided inspiration for architects outside Japan since the 1950s, when a boom in Japanese film programming in the UK and Europe influenced the New Brutalists. Introducing different kinds of Japanese architecture, homes, and way of living, this talk by Professor Jennifer Coates will explore a range of architectural styles and modes of inhabiting and filming these structures in Japanese cinema from 1950-1980.
