In 1935 a reporter attempts to discover more about the life of TE Lawrence, an outspoken lieutenant who united fractious Arab tribes in order to lead an attack on the Turkish army during WWI. Lawrence, a romantic ‘poet-warrior’ riven with doubts and contradictions, finds himself a reluctant agent of British Imperialism. Maurice Jarre’s sweeping score and Lean’s sense of scale turn modern history into a work of art. Lawrence of Arabia won seven Oscars and is considered by the BFI, AFI and many other film bodies as one of the greatest and most influential films of all time. This new 70mm print begins an exclusive run at BFI Southbank.
