Two billion years ahead of us, a future race of humans finds itself on the verge of extinction. Almost all that’s left in the world are surreal monuments, beaming their message into the wilderness... Based on the cult science-fiction novel by Olaf Stapledon, Last and First Men is the first and only feature-length film directed by the late acclaimed composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (Arrival, Sicario, The Theory of Everything). Jóhannsson artfully combined music, beautiful 16mm black-and-white photography and Tilda Swinton’s mesmerising narration to form a powerful, poetic meditation on memory and loss.
