With Hertha Thiele, Ernst Busch, Martha Wolter
A rare outing for this slice of didactic naturalism written by Bertolt Brecht. Set in the titular camp for the unemployed and dispossessed, it focuses on a young woman and her family and demonstrates how an adherence to traditional bourgeois values undermines political progress. Charming and incisive, it proceeds to celebrate activism; the rousing score by Hanns Eisler even ends with ‘Solidarity Song.’
