‘My blood will nourish the tree that will bear the fruits of freedom. Tell my people that I love them. They must continue the fight.’ So spoke Solomon Mahlangu, just prior to his execution by hanging on April 6 1979 at the age of just 22. This film traces the life of this celebrated South African ANC freedom fighter, from his days as a ghetto street trader through to his political awakening and transformation into an activist. Director Mandlakayise Walter Dube’s previous work includes documentaries, shorts and music videos, Kalushi is his impressive directorial feature debut.

We hope to welcome director Mandla Walter Dube to join us for a Q&A. Check back here for updates.
