To mark our major Japan season, our bumper Collections Focus display will highlight the wealth of material the library holds on Japanese moving-image culture. We’ll cover the early days of Japanese filmmaking from the painting-inspired silent movies of Kenji Mizoguchi to the much-imitated classics of Akira Kurosawa. The display will also highlight the ‘new wave’, films from the 1960s and 70s that challenged accepted cultural views and the establishment, as well as more recent genres such as J-horror and anime. The display is free to all, however please check with the library staff on duty before browsing, and follow any social distancing guidelines.
