A couple of years after Holy Grail, and with a similar setting, Gilliam’s first solo outing as director – inspired by Lewis Carroll’s poem – utilised his visual skills and eye for detail to great effect. This comic fantasy follows a young peasant (Palin) who reluctantly sets out to make his fortune and confront a huge monster called a Jabberwock – amid a land of filth and muck.
