Made-to-measure for vintage fashion fans, this Technicolor melodrama has one of the most striking opening shots in British cinema, followed by 90 minutes of intrigue in the ruthless world of haute couture. In a West End fashion house, female designers vie for supremacy on the catwalk and the pressure claims casualties along the way. Will genius fashionista Alison Greville – portrayed by Muriel Pavlow, who died earlier this year, aged 97 – be able to save the business? This rare screening is in celebration of Pavlow’s career. Jack Cardiff’s vibrant colour photography shows off the lavish costumes to their full advantage, set against the décor by pioneering designer Edward Carrick.

Please note: this is a colour film.
