I, Daniel Blake
A powerful Cannes prizewinner about the pitfalls and perils of Britain’s benefits system.
Dir Ken Loach
With Dave Johns, Hayley Squires, Kate Rutter
Screening alongside his latest release, Sorry We Missed You, is Ken Loach’s heartrending film about a widower struggling to cope with the benefits system while he recuperates from a heart attack. Penned by Paul Laverty (who also wrote Sorry We Missed You), the film won the Cannes Palme d’or and became Loach’s biggest success in the UK. Focusing on essential, telling details, the characteristically no-nonsense direction produces utterly convincing performances from Johns and Squires as Blake and the young single mother he befriends.
Also available on BFI Player.
The screening on Mon 11 Nov will be presented with Hard of Hearing Subtitles.
