Garland’s final film performance stands up there with some of her finest, and she gives it her emotional all as a successful concert singer back in London to reconnect with the son she abandoned. No wonder The Observer called her ‘a harrowingly good actress’ in its review. You feel every heartache and every emotion on display. What a swansong!
The screening on Tuesday 28 June will be introduced by Dirk Bogarde’s nephew, Ulric van den Bogarde.
