Total runtime 80min

The ICO returns for Archive Screening Day, an industry celebration of archive film that includes three public events: screenings of Broadway Rhythm and West Indies, and this presentation.

Race in the Hollywood Musical

The music and dance of the Hollywood musical are rooted in black cultural traditions, yet African Americans are for the most part marginalised or absent altogether. What does this tell us about the whiteness of the musical? How do black performers fare in the genre? Are there other models of the film musical beyond the white Hollywood one? Celebrated writer and academic Richard Dyer will be exploring these and other questions in this illustrated presentation.

A limited number of tickets are available at £6.50.
