Moved by the funeral of a friend to go on a boozy binge that sees them suddenly head for London, three middle-aged New York commuters inadvertently reveal their feelings and anxieties about marriage, sex, friendship, work, ageing and so forth. The three leads, typifying Cassavetes’ brand of garrulous naturalism, are memorably vivid and plausible, pointedly highlighting the desperation beneath the macho bravado.
