Le Rayon vert
Eric Rohmer’s partly-improvised story of a young Parisian’s search for love.
Dir Eric Rohmer
With Marie Rivière, Vincent Gauthier, Béatrice Romand
Rohmer’s partly improvised masterpiece concerns a young Parisian’s attempts to find happiness – and, perhaps, since it seems she’s just been dumped, a new lover – during the tricky month of August, when everyone leaves the city to take a holiday. An unsentimental but deeply sympathetic portrait of an idealistic, sometimes irritatingly indecisive protagonist, the film makes hugely expressive use of wind, clouds, shadows and sun.
