Dread, Beat and Blood
Dir Franco Rosso
Doubling as the launch event for our new monthly programme ‘Art in the Making’, we’re thrilled to present two titles from a new BFI DVD compilation. Seen here in a new digital remaster, Dread, Beat and Blood, directed by Franco Rosso (Babylon), follows dub poet master Linton Kwesi Johnson out of the recording studio and onto the Brixton streets, channelling the urgent sense of witness and resistance his iconic voice embodies.
+ Ten Years in an Open Necked Shirt
Dir Nick May
In Nick May’s documentary, John Cooper Clarke – the bard of Salford –presents a dryly-humorous, despairing hymn to urban devastation and the human casualties of an emergent self-seeking ethos. Sharply-made and scathing, these responses to the Thatcher era still hit hard today.
