50th Anniversary: Goodbye, Mr. Chips
A stuffy school teacher is seduced by an actress in this musical version of the classic James Hilton story.
Dir Herbert Ross
With Peter O’Toole, Petula Clark, Michael Redgrave, Siân Phillips

Petula Clark gives one of her finest performances as a stage star who seduces a shy, stuffy school teacher, impeccably played by Peter O’Toole (who masters Rex Harrison-style speak-singing). Set in pre-WWII English suburbia – with glorious detours to Naples and the Amalfi coast – Leslie Bricusse’s musical, based on the classic James Hilton novel, is a beautiful picture postcard of a more genteel time.
