In the ruins of a German church, a British soldier marries the young nurse who saved his life. But when he takes her home to his small English village, the community is far from welcoming. This Ealing drama marked Zetterling’s British debut and, alongside a strong supporting cast, she gives a performance of great sensitivity as the waif-like refugee.
